Overview

The Women’s Treatment Clinic (TWTC) is the state’s only substance misuse treatment center dedicated completely to women, with a focus on treatment framed and informed by women’s issues. TWTC’s continuum of treatment helps women move from addiction to recovery, with the ultimate objective of rebuilding families and reuniting them with their children. TWTC is unique in that we created our specialized programs for Parents and Children by focusing solely on the needs of women. Our experience, which was documented in a seven-year federal study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, showed that addicted women fared better when their children stayed with them during long-term treatment.

Women can get therapy, recovery techniques, and parenting skills at the Women’s Treatment Center. Infants and small children are cared for in its crisis nursery. To provide specific classrooms, the center’s pre-kindergarten program is a cooperative venture with the Chicago Public Schools and the Illinois State Pre-Kindergarten Programs. The Women’s Treatment Center offers medication-assisted treatment for a variety of disorders affecting women. It also provides counseling and testing, as well as a family program that assists with communication and individual parenting issues. Counselors, physicians, nurses, and administrators make up the center’s workforce. It provides prenatal and postpartum support, as well as assistance for moms with newborns and young children. Chicago is home to the Women’s Treatment Center.

Treatment Center Philosophy

Homelessness, poverty, trauma, and co-occurring mental problems are all difficulties that chemically dependent women face at the Women’s Treatment Center. Those in need of assisted withdrawal from opiates, alcohol, or other narcotics can enroll in a medically supervised detoxification program for four to six days once they arrive. Residents have individual therapy once a week. Individual therapy sessions, trauma rehabilitation, medical monitoring, and parenting assistance are all available to residents on a weekly basis. Those seeking treatment outside of a residential environment might take advantage of outpatient treatments and medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction. If requested, mothers may bring their children aged six and under to residential therapy.

The Women’s Treatment Center assists moms in their fight against addiction.

The Women’s Treatment Center’s aim has been to assist women who are struggling with addiction for more than 25 years.

The ultimate goal is for the women to remain sober once they leave, and for their children to no longer be concerned about their mother not being there when they wake up.

It may seem simple, but these women have traveled a long way. This mother has finally broken the cycle of addiction after two years at The Women’s Treatment Center. She’s excited about a new job and a new life with her partner.

Many children of addicted women wind up on welfare, unsure when they will be reunited with their moms, if facilities like The Women’s Treatment Center do not exist.
