Basic Information:

The North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a forensic mental health hospital in Gainesville, Florida, that is exclusively for men. They first opened their doors in October of 1976, and they now have a capacity of 193 people. We serve all 67 counties in Florida, with the purpose of returning individuals who have been found unable to stand trial (78%) to their committing courts for disposition. Their average ITP discharge was 92 days and our average NGI discharge was 317 days in fiscal year 2016/2017. During the fiscal year, we serviced 497 people. Their inhabitants are in their early 30s on average. Individual counseling, therapeutic modules, recovery planning, and release planning are all provided by our Social Services Counsellors while maintaining their goal.

NFETC is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and our Social Services Counselors work a 40-hour week. Interns and volunteers do not get stipends, travel compensation, or liability insurance. The Gainesville bus route actually comes to a halt just a few miles from their front door. Administration and Legal must evaluate each video/audio recording on a case-by-case basis. Ingress is restricted because it is a high-security facility.
