Abstract




Chemotherapy is an effective therapeutic option for the majority of human cancers, as well as a curative treatment option for 12 cancer types.The proportion of patients who survive beyond the time when the probability of therapy failure approaches zero, i.e. the disease-free survival plateau, is referred to as curative treatment. ┬áThis progress has been made possible by a collaborative scientific effort involving drug development, pharmacology, preclinical modeling, clinical trial experimental design, quantitative response criteria, and a series of clinical trials (first in children with acute lymphocytic leukemia) in which the importance of complete remission, dose and schedule, chemotherapeutic agent sequencing, pharmacological sanctuaries, and, in particular, co-treatment was studied. Disseminated Hodgkin’s disease, non-lymphoma, Hodgkin’s pediatric solid tumors, testicular cancer, and restricted small cell lung cancer have all been cured thanks to the ideas derived from these investigations, notably those relating to combination chemotherapy.Many patients with advanced solid tumors, such as breast cancer and osteogenic sarcoma, have a significant risk of developing disseminated microscopic illness.Treatment that is only partially successful against macroscopic disease is far more effective against tiny malignancies, according to experimental investigations.



As a result, chemotherapy is given shortly after the original tumor has been controlled in patients who are at high risk of developing disseminated microscopic illness, a treatment known as adjuvant chemotherapy. This program has shown a great deal of success in boosting the cure rate for juvenile solid tumors and extending disease-free life in premenopausal breast cancer patients.Given the technology’s widespread adoption, it’s anticipated that 15,000-30,000 patients each year in the United States could be cured.Chemotherapy’s capacity to cure cancer is often inversely proportional to age, hence the following malignancies are more common in children and young people. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy and autologous bone marrow transplantation are two new and promising treatment options.The advancement of molecular and cellular biology has increased the number of targets, justifications, and opportunities for more effective and new chemotherapeutic methods.
